Remember how frustrating can it be when you just can’t think of the topic to write about? Well, those days are over now. There are ways to generate more than enough ideas for your blog posts.

In fact, it’s very likely that you won’t have (or need) time to search for the new themes.

A general rule is not to spend more than 10 - 15 minutes on coming up with content ideas, and with following generators, you won’t need more.

Your time is valuable, don’t waste it when you don’t have to. In this article, I’m gonna show you the ways of generating content ideas, imagining that you’re writing about Fitness.

Let’s go.

#1 Quora

Quora

Quora is the most popular Q&A website in the world, and according to SimilarWeb, it has 270.4M visits per month.

Quora Visits by SimilarWeb

On this site ~419.610 questions are being asked every month. From that pile, you want to extract what people from your industry want to know:

Open Quora, in the search box type Fitness and click at Fitness topic.

You’ll see that it contains 47.1k questions.   Check the list of questions waiting for the answer.

Quora Fitness Questions

Notice that people are asking questions about:

  • Losing weight
  • Building upper body strength
  • Running

Based on that questions, you can write posts with titles like:

  • 6 Ways To Lose 15 Pounds in a Month
  • 13 Effective Upper-Body Exercises For The Strength
  • How To Run More Than 60 Minutes Per Day

Furthermore, you can create unique videos about upper-body exercises and so on.

Let’s dig deeper and open Running activity topic - 8.4k questions. Try Exercise - 32.1k there.

Now you see why Quora is the gold mine of ideas.

#2 BuzzSumo

To find the best performing topic or competitor use BuzzSumo. In the search box, type Fitness and click on Go!

You’ll get something like this.

 Fitness at BuzzSumo

One of the most shared articles in the world are about:

  • Fitness motivation
  • Coca Cola’s influence on the body
  • Women’s fitness and wellness

So I would write posts like:

  • 76 Reasons Why You Need To Do Fitness Training
  • The 13 Most Healthy Drinks In The World
  • Top 15 Fitness Exercises That Every Woman Must Do

Let’s clarify a little bit.

One of the most shared articles in the industry is How Coca Cola Affects Your Body in 60 Minutes. Cool.

What should I do with that information?

Write something opposite (e.g). Research everything about top 13 health drinks in the world. Use websites like Harvard Health Publications as a source.

Harvard Metrics at Moz

The health.harvard.edu URL has a domain Domain Authority of 94 and Page Authority of 90.

Also, they got 7.61 Domain MozRank and 8.81 Domain MozTrust.

The point is to make an article that will be considered as an authoritative one. By linking credible sources you’re increasing your authority at search engines like Google.

Another idea would be to write a blog post about food that pairs with Coca Cola like pizza does.

Bottom line: BuzzSumo allows you to see what people like and share, and based on that you can create similar or even better content.

#3 Ahrefs

While BuzzSumo shows you the most shared URLs on the web, Ahrefs lets you find the most linked URLs. MyFitnessPal has a popular blog.

Explore the blog.myfitnesspal.com on Ahrefs, and in Pages section, click on Best by links.

MyFitnessPal at Ahrefs

Now you can see how the best blog posts (by UR, RD, Links) look alike:

  • How To Eat Like a Successful MyFitnessPal user
  • A Beginner’s Guide to Meal Planning
  • The 30-Day Walking Challenge

Why wouldn’t you create The 30-Day Running Challenge or something like that? That’s just one example.

Use Ahrefs to research your competitors and you’ll come up with the whole bunch of new ideas.

Also, you can download the list of most linked pages who are, fortunately for you, outdated.

How is that fortunate for me?

Because you can create a new fresh (better) content, make a contact with websites who link to outdated pages and hopefully, get yourself a quality link.

No matter what they say, links are still the most important ranking factor.

#4 Your Own Blog

Writing a blog is like drinking a coffee with friends.

You start talking about what happened in the movie you watched last night, and end up in talking about new Tesla Model S that your favorite actor has bought.

Tesla Model SSource: BMWBLOG

I’ve decided to write a blog post about must-have metrics for E-commerce business and while writing it, I’ve realized that I should write two more:

Also, in the blog post about churn rate, I’ve written about predicting churn rate with Google Prediction API, so I’ve published an additional blog post: How To Predict Customers That Might Churn With Google Prediction API and Google Spreadsheets. You see my point?

Everything is related. Start writing about one topic and others are going to appear one by one. Simply expand subtitles or even paragraphs into new blog posts.

#5 Niche Experts

Niche experts are always interesting for auditing.

MyFitnessPal has published a How To Learn to like Running, so I’m asking you: What are the best ways to start enjoy running?

They said one of the ways is listening to the music.

How To Learn To Like Running

Do you think what I’m thinking? I’m sure.

Find music that motivates people to run and write an article about that. You can use YouTube for the research.

Bottom line: Read top industry blogs and expand subtitles or paragraphs.

#6 Twitter

Twitter knows, what people are babbling about at this right moment. You can know it too.

Just click here and enter the topic you are interested in. For e.g. searching #fitness has allowed me to find the following tweet:

Weight Loss vs Fat Loss

I figured out that I can write a 2,000 words blog post about weight loss vs fat loss or even create an infographic.

Conclusion

Content marketing is a huge opportunity for everyone. Become an expert in your industry and share your knowledge.

When you cannot find ideas in your niche for more than 15 minutes, it means that you are trying to write a blog post in the industry you are not familiar with. If that’s a case, then you should really learn more about the industry and try again later.

One thing you cannot allow yourself is writing a poor content and wasting too much time to find new themes. There are more than enough sources and theme generators.
